Opera Mobile has Flash

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

I’ve not followed this closely, in part that I don’t have a phone that could support this. (Ah, the joys of life on a limited budget! ;) But I think the key is the last paragraph:

In the meantime, having Flash on your phone may not be all it’s cracked up to be. It may give you access to your favorite video websites, but only if the phone’s processor and hardware are fast enough to cope. “Often they are not,” says [Ian] Fogg. “This may be one reason that the iPhone does not yet have Flash support.”

Mobile gets interesting.

Monday, November 5th, 2007

The mobile space just got a lot more interesting. Rather than make a phone (which doesn’t make sense to me) Google’s partnered with few others to put together a mobile platform SDK. I wonder how this will turn out? We’ll find out in a few months when the first handsets start arriving.

Also noted, this piece about one of the main people involved Andy Rubin of Android.com, and Google.

Shadowing iPhone

Monday, October 29th, 2007

The Shadow looks interesting. As a former T-Mobile customer, I wish them well in their effort. Personally, I’m still planning on getting an iPhone, eventually.

This does raise a question: are all US carriers going to come out with an iPhone competitor in the next few months? My guess is yes. Shadow’s targeting a business user, more specifically Blackberry users. With the recent release of Mac OS X 10.5 (aka Leopard), there’s doubtless an iPhone update not too far off. What’s going to appear in the bottom row?

For now, being able to use any device on any network remains a pipe dream for many, at least in the US.
